Caring for Animals One Life at a Time

Shallow Ridge Exotics is an Avian & Sulcata Tortoise Rescue dedicated to giving animals in need a safe place to heal, recover, and thrive. Every animal that comes into our care has a story. Some arrive because their families can no longer provide for them, while others need additional care, rehabilitation, or a more suitable environment. Whatever brought them to us, our goal is the same to provide compassionate, responsible care based on the individual needs of each animal.

🐢 Important Notice: Limited Sulcata Tortoise Placement

As colder temperatures approach, Shallow Ridge Exotics would like to inform our community that we are temporarily unable to accept large Sulcata tortoises requiring outdoor housing due to a shortage of additional winterized, heated shelters.

With the increasing number of calls and requests for Sulcata placement, we are limiting the acceptance of larger Sulcatas to emergency situations only during the winter months, based on available accommodations. Regular placement for larger Sulcatas is expected to resume in spring 2027, once weather conditions allow.

Smaller Sulcata tortoises are still welcome into our rescue, depending on available indoor space and their individual care needs.

We are actively seeking sponsors, financial assistance, and grant opportunities to help construct additional heated shelters and expand our outdoor enclosures. Our hope is to increase our capacity so we can provide safe accommodations for more Sulcata tortoises in need.

Turning away an animal in need is never an easy decision, especially during the colder months. We are doing everything we can to expand our resources while ensuring every tortoise entrusted to our care receives the safe, appropriate housing it deserves.

We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and consideration as we work toward helping more animals in need.

❤️ Shallow Ridge Exotics
Avian & Sulcata Tortoise Rescue

Our avian rescue provides birds with proper care, enrichment, socialization, and time to adjust. Birds that are ready for adoption may be listed on Petfinder and matched with appropriate homes.

Not every bird is placed for adoption. Some remain with Shallow Ridge Exotics as sanctuary residents when long-term care is the best option for their individual needs.

Our Sulcata tortoises receive species-appropriate care, proper nutrition, outdoor space, natural sunlight, and enrichment. Older Sulcatas may remain with Shallow Ridge Exotics as long-term sanctuary residents, while younger Sulcatas may be considered for adoption when an appropriate, knowledgeable home is available. Each tortoise is evaluated individually based on its age, health, history, and long-term needs.
